Seattle os my home town I was born there and even though I now live in Marion Illinois Seattle will always be my favorite city. also the Pike Place market will always be my favorite place to go to as it has since I was a little girl, and the fish toss is the best I never get tired of watching it. some day I will get back up to Seattle and hopefully live there again.

I am a first-time buyer, though I have watched many a fish being thrown at your venue at Pike’s Place. I ordered 10 pounds of King Salmon to be delivered to my parents house in Ohio while I am visiting them from Seattle. I ordered it to be shipped on Monday, and it arrived on time on Tuesday in Ohio, beautifully wrapped and filleted as requested. We will be having an early Thanksgiving, but of fresh King Salmon instead of turkey! Well done, and many thanks to Jeremy and Jake, who packed it.
- Andrew Brown
Hey guys, I have never been to Pike’s Place, I’m actually suppose to write a essay for an assignment project, and when I came across your videos of fish throwing, I was amazed guys, keep up the good work and you guys really made it as WORLD FAMOUS.
- Darren
my mother loves sashimi. so i like to send her the seasons best. i would also like see what else is good.
- Jon
Our company uses your video at our regional meetings, they love your work philosophy, its a great little film. Thye plan a whole section of the meeting, plainly lableing it FISH! Which lead us to wonder what on earth they were talking about. Anyways it was a great little film and I reccomend it to friends all the time. Ever since I watched it I have wanted to visit the market, so 2 years later and thousands of miles away from home… here I am. ( I am from Massachussetts) You guys are great, what a fun place it must be to work!

Perhaps you remember as I was asked to email you with my story. My wife and I visited some friends in Seattle the weekend of August 15th. When re-reading your book on the plane, a flight attendant taped me on my shoulder and said “Isn’t that great?” I shared with her my excitement about visiting the market and seeing in real life what I visualized in my dreams. She stated how her airlines and embrassed the philosophy and its positive overall impact on their company. But what she said next shocked me: “Don’t go to the “first” fish stand in the market ... that is not the REAL group behind the story”. She then gave me left and right directions to one of your competitors. I was stumped, but this being my first visit ... figured she knew more. When we arrived at the market, however on Saturday, the 15th, there appeared to be 100 or more people just standing and watching your site ... waiting for something special to take place. Wanting to double check my notes, I went over to a business selling flowers directly across from you (holding the book) and was told ... that I was indeed at the right spot. I wiggled, dodged, and weaved up to the “front row”. The employee out front seemed nice enough and walked up and simply asked where I was from. I said “Albuquerque, New Mexico.” He said welcome to Seattle and walked away. I watched for some 15 - 20 minutes with book and camera in hand ... “nothing”. No energy, no smiles, no real interaction with any of the employees, a small fish tossed maybe twice in the time frame I was there ... “nothing”. I was beginning to “warn my welcome” with my wife and friend’s patiences waiting for me, so we left to find somewhere to eat lunch and then went to their house. I began to think the flight attendant was right and was disappointed in two things ... that I did not look for “the other fish place” and, if it truly wasn’t the right one ... what a shame that they forgot what made them “world famous”. That night, still disappointed, I went on the internet and checked site after site with various “You Tube” videos. I was indeed there and my disappointment was compounded. The following day we went to a Yankees/Mariners game. On the way home, I asked a favor from my group ... to go back again. I said ... just drop me off ... circle the car ... I have to do something. Arriving at your business, there was only a handful of people. I told the person my story and he apologized and said: “How can I help?” I said I want to feel what I came for and I want to buy a fish for my friends. We became engaged in the type of fish I wanted, how many it was to feed, and how I planned to cook it. (He was being “present” ... one of the four cornerstones of the Fish Philosophy. He then walked me around the corner and introduced me to another employee around the counter. He introduced me, told my story, and he said “he is ready to catch dinner”. At that point, we started having “fun” (cornerstone number two). I was introduced to the crowd .... more people started to gather ... my wife was taking pictures like crazy ... he announced where the fish was going ... Albuquerque, New Mexico ... his fellow employees chanted in unison. Energy was building. I was taught how to hold my hands to catch the fish when tossed, but he announced to the crowd (because I was wearing a Yankees jersey) ... the probability was high I would miss it. (The Yankees did lose that day to the Mariners.) The laughter of the employees and the crowd was abundant. The toss came ... a huge fish I might add ... and I caught it. The place erupted in cheers and applause. As the fish was being prepared for our trip home, I decided to “pay it forward” by asking if I could buy their book. His head dropped and said something about the “Fish” Book and I said: “Oh, no ... YOUR Book ... the one entitled “Catch” written by each of you. His head popped up, smiled, and said “Yes, Sir. Not a problem.” He then said, “May we autograph that for you?” (The 3rd cornerstone was knocked out of the park: “They made my day”.) I have shared this story with countless others, I passed along each of my books to a dear friend ... whose company is in the beginning stages of introducing the Fish Philosphy to their employees ... and, as a company, has bought countless books to hand out to other colleagues with hopes that it will “make their day”. I also hope that my effort to go back to your shop has made a difference. Unfortunately, when we become successful there is some risk that we forget what truly got us there. I am so glad ... at least on that given day ... you listened and “chose the right attitude” (the fourth and last cornerstone) ... that will have an everlasting impact on me ... and, who knows, there might have been someone in that happy crowd ... on that day ... that was touched by what it is like to work for a company that is indeed “WORLD FAMOUS”. (I have another dear friend who is taking her daughters on a day trip this coming week to Seattle… and I gave her “the right directions” to see you.)
- Bill Hughes
I just got home from Seattle today, I have to say seeing you guys at the market was almost as great as visiting my son. We stoped by on Saturday and I bought “When Fish Fly” I finished the book and loved every page. So, yesterday We came by and I bought “Catch”. I am starting a new job in the morning and can not tell you how much both books inspired me, to be a better person and a better employee!
Thanks Guys!!

You all signed a tee-shirt for my cousin to take back to Wisconson which was awesome even thoughyou were busy you took the time. I’m a military man and when you see that type of comitment it brings joy to my heart as I have seen to much hurt and death. Thank you for the wonderful moment to take back overseas with me.

I just wanted to drop you a note about FISH! I have introduced FISH to our Cashiers/Customer Service Outfitters here at Cabela’s. We have had several meeting and some fun activities. This weekend I had something awesome happen and I want to share it we you. It is a note I read to my team last night.
A man I met!
I met a man yesterday. It was not your usually meeting; in fact he did not say a word. Yet he spoke volumes to me. You see his friends and family told me about him. They talked for almost 2 hours about his life. One man who had worked with him told stories of how he had change their workplace. How he
was always positive and had great influence in their office because of his attitude. How he never let things get him down and just saw them as new and exciting challenges. He read stories that co-workers had written that told
how he had made a difference in their life. How he had made their day so many times. One friend told me how he liked to play, that he loved racing, motorcycles and flying. Another friend told me how great it was to be his friend, how he made you feel special when you were with him. Yet another told how when you talked to him that he was always present with you. Never distracted by other things but focused on what you were saying. Listening, so he could help you if it were possible or just encourage you. There was story after story of what this man had meant to his friends and family, the way he had lived his life had great influence over each and every one of them. I wanted to meet this man but it was too late as I was at his funeral. But as I listen I realize that he had leaded a life that reflected FISH and how that life had affected everyone else.
This is what I want for you not to just change things at work but to change your life. I want you to have a life that affects other people. A life that makes people want to be your friend, an attitude that is welcoming, a presences that lets people know you care, a joy in your life that people can
see. And then last but not least I want you to make their day by passing FISH on to them.
- Alan Johnson

Thanks for the T-Shirt and for letting me throw a fish around with you guys on Monday evening about 5PM. I was the very tall guy in the red shirt.
I’m from New Haven, CT and had heard about the fish throwing market but had forgotten until I stumbled upon you at Pike’s Place
Thanks again for an experience I will never forget.
- Skip Thomas
Hi, I am currently undertaking a management course, and for the first time I heard and viewed you guys in action. I was totally blown away by your amazing attitude. Thanks for the experience.

hi I am ShelleyBridges an I go to MountHollyMiddle School and we wached the vidio that you all maded and i loved it.It was allsome the way you all worked together and what you all do. you all were allsome it was so fun how you all done your work.
I stepped right up to the counter
Even though I don’t like fish
To meet the guys of Pike Place
Was really my only wish
I watched quietly from the side
And stood in the crowd of many
How these guys throw fish around
And make our day, is uncanny
I’d waited for years to see this
Knowing it would thrill my day
Soaking up the good energy
Trying to stay out of the way
I finally made a purchase,
A canvas shopping bag and a book
My visit had come to an end
And I was certainly “off the hook”
Your philosophy is something I strongly believe in. Being around your energy and watching it happen live was certainly a treat. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for making our day and for setting an example for the rest of us. It was truly a joy to meet all of you and, although you won’t remember me out of the thousands of people you meet each year, know that you made an impact on me - one I won’t soon forget. I plan to put the photo I took while at Pike Place on my desk at work - to remind me of what’s important. Justin, thanks for recommending that book - Catch. I read it on the plane ride home. I’m going forward with my intentions and loving every minute of it. “It’s all over here!” :)

Hi!!!!
I hope this email finds you all as fantastic as you are in the FISH! DVD. I first saw this DVD six years ago and I still train people with it today, THANK YOU!!!!!
What has happened to JP? All the girls this week want a picture of Justin, with his hat on, like in the DVD, looking into the camera just as he did when he explained ‘BE THERE’.
I am in Scotland, but if you could post one on the site or email me one it would ‘make a lot of scottish girls day’!!!!!!
Thanks again for being you!

- Joe Mauriello
You guys need to have an “official photographer” - I got home from my trip to find that I just wasn’t fast enough to capture pictures of my little girls with a fish flying between their heads! You could make a fortune selling the pics AND you’d make so many of us slow photographers even happier while we’re eating our delicious fish!
Hi,
I was in Seattle two weeks ago and my cousin got me behind the counter to catch a fish. I had so much fun and just wanted to thank you! The guys were all great! I thought I was going to drop it but Justin showed just how to do it correctly! Thanks Justin your a doll!!
- Cathie Winter
Hello! Just wanted to thank you guys for making my first visit a great one. I had the pleasure of spending a few moments talking with Yori, who was a first class fella with great customer service. As a fellow retailer, its refreshing to see a group of folks who appear to be greatly enjoying what they’re doing. Thanks again and keep up the great job you guys are doing! Next time I’m in Seattle, I’ll be sure to visit again.

Why is it so easy to weigh fish?
They have their own scales. Haha.
I’ve visited Seattle many times and loved it so much that I’ll be moving there soon, so I hope to visit you guys fairly frequently!

I just returned to South Carolina from Seattle. Amazing place for a little southern girl. I just wanted to say, you guys rock!
- Mary Morris
I recently just came back from my week long trip to Seattle and the Pike Place Fish Market was the only request I had when asked what sites I wanted to see. Not even the Space Needle could top the awesome work you guys do. It was like watching a band of brothers laughing and smiling at each other along with the spectators. I wish I could have seen the famous fish toss, but no one order any fish the days I visited.
- Danielle D
We just wanted to support you guys, we think the fish toss is fun and we always love the enthusiasm it creates with the crowd. Whenever we bring visitors to Pike Place Market they always love the show you guys put on! Its businesses like yours that give Pike Place Market its wonderful distinctive ambiance, Seattle and its visitors love you guys! Don’t let PETA stop you from putting on such a great show, the fun fish toss creates such lively enthusiasm with the crowd. PETA protesting the fish toss shows what a bunch of nut jobs they are, grasping at straws because they can’t find, more important, legitimate issues to pursue. You have a great fish business with an enthusiastic way of marketing, keep up the good work!
- TW
I watched a video today that showed you guys with your 4 easy steps to enjoying work. I have to say I was very tired and sluggish until I watched it. Thanks so much for your spirit. It uplifted mine and others in training today. See you on the web cam
- ShARON BUTLER
My college roommate and her sister were visiting me from Carthage, NC. I took them to see you guys and your “flying fish” action. My friend’s sister is in a wheelchair. Your kind vendor asked her if she would like to hold a fish? Excitedly, she said, “Yes!” He asked, “A big one? Or little one?” “Oh, a big one!” This sweet young man placed a large piece of plastic in her lap to hold this huge fish. I took pictures of her holding this fish, along with the young man. Let me tell ya’, you made her day!!! And ours too! Thank you so much for your great kindness.
- katherine finnigan
Some of you guys are really HOT!! You need to include your relationship status on your profiles for all of us out here that might be interested.

I visited your market last year on my wife’s birthday. Her name is Libby, and my name is Al. We are from Louisville, KY. You allowed her to go behind the counter and catch the fish. We are the couple that brought Anders a cup of coffee! I ordered some fish to have shipped home last year, and it was soooo good, I had to order some more today!
Al & Libby Davis
- Alfred B. Davis
Please don’t cave to PETA’s harrassment. The fish are dead, they are going to be eaten, I mean, really. Pike Place Fish Market’s culture and status as a Seattle icon needs to stand strong. I have watched your motivational film and sincerely appreciate your philosophy and that you are so much more than a fishmonger. PETA needs to know that they cannot bully into compliance and common sense still has great value! The fish are yummy, we love them and, while you throw them for entertainment, I know you respect them - you wouldn’t have a business without the fish.
Stay strong! Thanks.
- MJP
I like all the pictures. They are really nice.

We visited Seattle about two weeks ago and stayed in a hotel a few short blocks from the market area of downtown. Our visit was incomplete until we went to see the Pike Place Market and especially the Pike Place Fish Market. What a place!!! We didn’t get to see you guys throwing fish, because it was too early in the morning, but it was a great stop! I’ll be ordering some fish soon for a Father’s Day gift and maybe even a t-shirt that we didn’t pick up while we were there!! Take care from the part of the USA that’s almost as far away as you can get and still be in the same country. Seattle is a beautiful place!!

We will be in Seattle in May embarking on a cruise. We are staying a mile from the market and can’t wait to come see “fish fly”. We saw your recent story on MSN.com. So cool how your business philosophy has been so successful. This is a breath of fresh air given our current economy. It’s really too bad more “business owners” don’t understand that a fun work environment leads to a successful business with happy, loyal employees. My husband’s company could take LOTS of lesson from you guys. See you in May!

I am on the road to change and it was with your help. I am here to make my work place and my home a better place. I have taken the first step by choosing my attitude….

Great company to do business with! I purchased some salmon and crab last week while I was in Seattle, but the crab was left out of my box by mistake. I was soooo disappointed when I got home and opened the box. When I called the next day, they knew exactly who I was, were expecting my call, and shipped me a crab overnight. It tasted wonderful! I’ll not hesitate to place mail orders until I can get back to Seattle again and shop in person.

Our MD is busy at a roadshow and has showed us a dvd about your store and your legendary service that you offer. I was blown out of my socks, and I didn’t even had socks on. Wow, just want to thank you for inspiring a entire company. This attitude is a decision, and I can’t wait to see it manifest in our company of 3000 employees!
kind regards

I have been to the market a thousand times and I just can’t get enough of it. I think I am part of it. Matt in Kirkland via Walla Walla

Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed learning about and wish I lived closer so that I could visit the market to see you in action. Keep up the good work and keep throwin’ those fish! I am so excited, I have never been to Seattle and to catch a flying fish is on my Bucket list (you know things to do before you kick the bucket). Hopefully it will happen, but definitely looking forward to seeing your store!
Thanks

You guys rock!! Loved seeing you all back in 2005 and we also loved the piece on the Foodnetwork as well.
Take care and best wishes
I’m here on the east coast (SC) and I think you guys have an absolutely great site. Wonderful job in displaying your wares.
due to family obligations, I sadly left Seattle 7 years ago. “The Market” was a twice weekely haunt of mine and I truely miss it; the smells, the shops, and getting drooled on by flying fish. Each time I have come to Seattle for a visit; I make it a point to stop and pack as much fish as I can legally get thru the xray machines at SeaTac.
My family obligations have again changed, and it appears that we will be returning to the West Coast….I can hardly wait, and your shop is one of the first I will stop at again! Your seafood is by far, and hands down the best and most fresh without compare…anyplace I have been in the United States.
keep on doing what you do best!! Go SeaHawks!!

I love the philosophy and think it has a definitive place in the workplace!
Who knew, sitting in a boring service workshop, I would be woken up by seeing the go fish motivational video.
I had heard about pike’s way before then, but decided right then and there, that I would go and catch a fish one day!
Well, the opportunity came, when my message board, mothers and fathers of twins decided on their latest pubcrawl… up to now, I had forgone them all… to SEATTLE, well colour me happy and slap my silly! I totally decided to go and do TWO things that would make me happy, meet the amazing ppl on the net I had bonded so strongly with and go to Pike’s to catch a fish!
I can now scratch two things of my to do list, I have my coveted pic of me and my fish, with fishmongers Taho and Jeremy to commemorate the occasion, and oh yea, cheeky monkey Ryan R, mugging for a pic he took as I went behind the counter! I was also given the biggest wind up as I took a close up picture of the monk fish and Ryan D, gave it a tug and nearly sent me flying on my ASS!
Seriously, the infectious energy and spirit you all project, I will carry it with me through many a day’s work, where I would rather not put on my game face!
Thanks guys, it was amazing, I traveled all the way from Montreal, and you didn’t disappoint! I walked around for the rest of the day, with a faint smell of fish on my fingers and it brought a smile to my face each time!

You have created an amazing atmosphere, people can help but smile. I was there at the beginning of May and it was my first time to Seattle and I couldn’t wait to go to the Market to see the “World Famous” guys at Pike Place Market. Thanks for letting me come behind the counter and catch some fish. I had a great teacher, thanks Ryan R. I was worried I wasn’t going to catch it..but Ben had a nice toss. :-) Again, thanks for an amazing experience can’t wait to head out that way again. Keep up the good work.

Everytime I’m in Seattle I have to take a few minutes out of my day and stop by the Market to see you all! It’s great. . .
You guys rock ! Can’t wait to come visit, and see you guys in action. Lotsa love from New Zealand !!
I just had to write to say that the energy of the guys working 5/19/07(JEREMY(?),Jeff,Yori,Taho, and the others) made my first experience in Seattle great. I flew up for the day to go to dinner with my friend and she told me about the Pike Place Fish Market. I love the way they got the customers involved, especially one little boy. Even though he didn’t catch the fish, he was still smiling. I didn’t see a single person without a smile. It left such a great impression on me that I can’t wait until my next weekend off to fly up and see it all over again. Working for the airlines I know how much great customer service means. Keep up the GREAT work and I WILL see you in the future.
P.S I’ve been hearing about a video on your fish throwing and was wondering how a can get a copy.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thanks again for letting me come back there and catch a fish. All I can say is, awesome. Thanks again for taking the time out to take care of me. You guys are great.
great website! Now, I can visit Seattle and have all my gift purchasing done ahead of time. You guys are wonderful! Love your city.
Hey. i went to pike place with my choir in April and i had a blast. you guys were great. you probably dont remember me but i was the girl in the big black sweater that said Udall on the back in gold. well any way there was a guy I think it was justin who kept being mean to me. he swirrled my finger in a fish eyeball and it made me scream a lot. Thank you for letting me and my two friends throw fish with you. oh and Thanx A Lot!!! for chasing me with that stupid ugly monkfish, that scared the bageebies out of me. lol but its all good i still had a great time. oh and Justin i still hate fish.
You guys are great. and cute i was at the market last weekend and it was my first time i had a blast. i didnt catch the fish i sucked at it but it was worth it i got a great pic of me and one of you.
I’ve been to the Pike Place Fish Market twice in my life, and each time it was sooo cool! I saw these smiley, happy employees throwing the fish around, and then one of them threw a great rubber fish at one of the people watching. The fish that my uncle bought was really good, and I don’t like fish.
I was introduced to your store in my Certified Public Managers course. We were showed your motivational film entitled FISH. It was very entertaining and inspirational. Now I have something to strive for when managing my squad at the Cape May County, NJ Sheriff’s Department. Thanks for the help.
I feel like I know y’all as I have spent the entire day reading “When Fish Fly” in preparation for a presentation that I am giving next week in a Leadership course I am enrolled in at UMass Dartmouth (located next door to New Bedford, MA a major east coast fishing port you may have heard of). I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I hope the presentation does your vision justice…and maybe your book sales will increase too. Just trying to do my part to keep you in the “World Famous” category. Thanks for all your help, and best wishes!
I was at the fish market a few years ago and i loved every moment i was there! u guys were so funny and i still have my pictures form there! Thanks for the memories!
Love how you scare everyone (including my children) with the monkfish! hee hee! You guys make everyone smile that visits your market. You make us all aspire to have more fun at work!

Went to a 71st birthday party Friday night and crab was served from your market….......What a treat here in land- locked Minnesota. It was delicious!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!
I saw your video 4 years ago and was blown away - so much energy, enthusiasm, positivity and fun in everything you do. I decided to implement your principles into what I do and lead my team by example - yes, I think they all thought I was bonkers at the time but every single one of my guys jumped onboard and we haven’t looked back since.
My team are happy, motivated, productive and efficient - when you ask them why Fish works for them they say its because its a way of life, and its something that gets refreshed in little ways each and every day. Our mission this year is to ‘infect’ as many people as we can with Fish - the world would be a much happier place if everyone lived the Fish Philosophy.
Thank you for making my job so much easier and bringing such a sense of fun and reward to everything me and my team do.

It’s two in the morning here, but I just HAD to boot my computer again after laying for an hour, realising I saw this amazingly inspiring movie (of course the one about your fish market) on a course work was giving the newbies.
And I just HAD to try and remember the name and look you guys up on the net, because I definately plan to visit you guys as well when I come to Seattle one day, though I have to save up big time first being a Dutchie ^^;; But, I WILL come by! Just have to!
Greetings and many thanks for the inspiration,

I first visited Seattle a few months ago and felt completely unimpressed. As a native of Portland, Oregon, I left thinking that Portland was an friendlier city and that Seattle was nothing special. However, I recently returned for a concert and ventured out to Pike’s Market and to your store and congratulations: I completely turned around and now love it. I transferred to Seattle University and am loving it here in the city. Something I am sure would not have happened if your store didn’t exist.
Thanks!

Best regards from Arne

Thanks for being so inspiring!
You have a truly great market. It is hard to find a business that is truly passionate about what they do and you guys do this better than anybody!!!

I am a nurses aide at a long term care facility. We deal with sadness almost every day and watching your video brought some smiles to everyones faces. It was a nice change. You guys are all awesome, nice catch by the way. Keep up the great work and continue to have fun. We will all try to work on our moral and make decisions to be happy.
I grew up in Issaquah, and with all my family still there, I sure do miss the seafood cookouts they have all summer long. I thought I’d look for some fresh seafood from home (however I need to save my pennies before I can order some). I have however, introduced cooking salmon on cedar planks to my in-laws. It’s a HUGE hit!
It was really great to c u all agian. I’ll try and make it back next summer so i don’t freeze my butt off while i chat with you. Maybe next time Jeremy will let me bring you dick’s burgers… Justin and Anders we’ll triple date next time i’m in town!
Love you all

I was fortunate enough to be at a FISH training several years ago and have lived ( to the best of my ability) the four principles ever since. My staff think I’m crazy when I dance down the hall with them, but they laugh and dance along. I am trying to teach them the importance of all 4 princples and I think it’s working
Thank you, from the bottom of my “fishy” heart!
Sheri
I have the Fish series to help me inprove moral at my job. Thanks, very motivational.
You guys are all so sexy!!!!
Thanks for being so inspiring. I recently had to do a presentation for a job interview and re - read “When Fish Fly”. John’s story helped to inspire me and motivate me to complete the presentation when I had “writer’s block”.
I did not get the job. I have recently applied for another postion with my own company and I am also being considered for a promotion in my current position.
I think you guys are awesome. At my former employer, all employees underwent “FISH” training. This is not the case at my current company and no one in management is very interested when I bring the subject up. On a daily basis, I do my best to “live” the principles and lead by example.
I hope to visit the Seattle area some day and stop by the Fish Market to say “Hi”. Currently, I am in NJ, caring for my elderly mother.
Thanks again.
